Just joking about Presentation Skills

Practising presentation skills is not a joke, but yet jokes and humour is part of the training. It is easy to sharpen your skills - just attend one of our sessions and look at a clip from the presentation skills educator...

Apart from humour ... let's jump for one moment from one thing to another. Remember that powerpoint is not the presenter - you are. Use it as sparingly as possible with as little slides as possible. If you do decide to use a Power Point in addition to your speech, here are some guidelines for making a good one. Use consistency when making the slides. Make sure they are the same color and formatting. Do not put too much information on the slides. Not only will this be difficult for your audience to read and might take them away from your speech, but you may start using this as a crutch and read the slides. Instead of speaking to your audience, you would start speaking to the Power Point on the screen, and people will start to lose interest. The use of PowerPoint and solid presentation skills has become synonomous - it is wrong!
