Learning presentation skills in a safe environment is so much better. Believe it or not - hand, feet and eyes can make or break a presentation. Presentation skills experts believe that one of the most powerful techniques of public communication skills is the skilful use of prolonged eye contact at the right moments. Most presenters will keep eye contact with audiences or individuals in fractions of seconds. At times when you want to use silence, it can be very handy to keep eye contact with the audience for about 3 - 4 seconds in silence. This one of those highly uncomfortable public speaking skills to the presenter, but very influential with the audience. Depending on the purpose you want to achieve, it can give the opportunity for people to ponder, do introspection or let the reality sink in. A word of caution though - these prolonged eye contact times should be carefully planned at the right intervals and with a clear purpose at the right moment. It needs to be rigorously practised before applied in front of a live audience. Your appearance as a professional or presenter should be carefully considered. When we speak about appearance too much emphasis is given to clothing and too little to body posture. Slumping shoulders and a gorilla-like bend of the back, while communicating with an audience is not good for business. Hands can be used abundantly and movement fight boredom amongst audience members. Get a colleague and practise how you enter the presentation room ... maintain eye contact, smile and walk confidently and upright without looking rehearsed, mechanical or robot-like. We can give you ample opportunity for practising presentation skills in a safe training environment...
