Being able to project your voice effectively is an essential part of effective presentation skills and any stage performer's or business presenter's armoury. In normal speech air is only drawn from the top of the lungs. Voice projection is the ability to use the whole of the lungs rather than that small amount. Using the whole of the lungs for voice projection is achieved with the effective use of the diaphragm. This means taking full deep breaths so that the lungs and chest are fully expanded prior to uttering a sound. Voice projection is essential if you want to be an effective presenter. Any employee or manager who radiates confidence and superb presentation skills when he starts speaking from the podium will have gotten half way to captivating his audience. In order to be able to radiate such confidence a presenter has to have three prerequisites - he must know his subject, preferably backwards. He must feel confident in his own ability to speak, and he should be able to control his nervousness. Nervousness or anxiety is a natural feeling for anyone who is appearing on a stage in front of an audience, be it large or small one. Even some of the world's finest actors and actresses suffer from stage fright and need presentations skills training. Not to even mention us in the business world. However, that's all it is, stage fright. The audience is not going to rush forward and lynch you when you fail to deliver a presentation in the correct way.
