
Presentation skills training: the nervous stutter
Presentation skills training will help you with the nervous stutter. It could be a slight nervous stutter, mispronouncing a word here and there, or forgetting a portion of the presentation. Everyone does it, and until you get better at your presentation skills, you are going to do it too. There are ways to help prevent these little mistakes, however, and they all involve practice. The more you are able to practice your speaking skills in front of people, the more comfortable you are going to be. Practicing a particular presentation will help you identify trouble words that you trip over and can be overcome by presentation skills training. It will also allow you to memorize the script. Use note cards if it helps and not too many slides. If you have difficulty memorizing a presentation, don't worry. Nobody will fault you for neatly organizing some note cards to help you remember key points of your presentation. One thing to remember while using note cards, however, is that they are simply a tool for helping you present your presentation. You should not use it as a crutch. It is still important to maintain eye contact with your audience. It is difficult to show the audience that you are a confident presenter if your face is buried in a note card. Just breathe. Perhaps one of the easiest things to remember to help you relax while giving a presentation is to simply take your time but not go overtime - one of the "musts" during presentation skills training.
